Opening Ceremony and the Helsinki University Reception

Welcome by Professor Marjaana Niemi, President of EAUH, and the representatives of the University of Helsinki and the City of Helsinki.
Keynote lectures by Professor Riitta Nikula and Professor Maarten Prak

After the opening ceremony, the University of Helsinki invites the EAUH 2016 participants to a reception at the main building of the University of Helsinki at 20.00. The University Reception is
included in the conference fee.

Please remember to indicate your participation to the Helsinki university reception on the registration form even if it is included in the conference fee. Please note that it might not be possible to register to the Helsinki University Reception on-site.

Helsinki City Reception

Venue: Helsinki City Hall, Pohjoisesplanadi 11–13

The City of Helsinki invites the participants of EAUH 2016 to the Helsinki City Hall on Thursday 25 August at 19:00–20:30. The City Hall is located next to the Market Square (Pohjoisesplanadi 11–13). Designed by architect Carl Ludvig Engel (1833), and remodeled by architect Aarno Ruusuvuori during the 1960s, the City Hall is a central administrative building of the City of Helsinki. Please remember to bring your conference badge. The City Hall Reception is included in the conference fee.

Conference Dinner

Venue: Restaurant Vanha Ylioppilastalo (Old Students’ House)
Date: Friday, 26 August 2016
Duration: 19:00–22:00

A conference dinner has been pre-booked during the registration at a subsidised rate of 15 euros. If you wish to join the dinner but have not registered in advance, please contact the conference registration desk. We will have a small number of vacancies.

Please remember to choose the Thematic Walk you wish to attend on the registration form and pay the fee of EUR 5 together with your registration fee. Please also note that it might not be possible to register to the Thematic Walks on-site as only max 30 persons (Walk IV max 10 persons, Walk IX max 35 persons) can be accepted to each Thematic Walk. A Thematic Walk will be organized if min 10 persons register to the Walk.

Post Tours

Post Tour: Helsinki Geopolitics in the Archipelago

Date: Sunday, 28 August

The post tour will consist of a cruise in the beautiful Helsinki archipelago and visit to two of its islands Vallisaari and Kuninkaansaari. We will have a guide to give insight on both the islands’ interesting history and its versatile nature.

Post Tour: Medieval Town of Porvoo

Date: Sunday, 28 August

The post tour will take you to the medieval wooden town of Porvoo where we will have a guided walking tour as well as free time for lunch and to visit little boutiques and artisan workshops.

Please note that the two Post Tour alternatives will take place at the same time and therefore you may register to only one of them. Please indicate your participation on the registration form and pay the fee together with your registration fee. Please also note that it might not be possible to register to the Post Tours on-site.
